LOST WORLDS: Abandoned Places Frozen in Time

There is a village in France that was never rebuilt, because its ruins were preserved to speak for the dead.
Somewhere else, the ground itself betrayed a farmer. His cornfield cracked open. A volcano rose where wheat used to grow, and swallowed his village whole.
These aren't isolated stories. Across the world, entire communities, homes, churches, schoolyards full of memory, were erased without warning.
Some died in an afternoon. Others rotted for decades, one empty house at a time.
So what does it actually take to make people abandon the one place they always believed would be home?
